Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a theoretically-based and age-appropriate way for children to express what is troubling them. Children often have trouble finding the words to express their thoughts and feelings. Play Therapy allows them to use the toys as their words and play as their language.

Child-Centred Play Therapy means that the child directs the therapy sessions. Children have the freedom to explore the room and use the toys as they choose. Therapeutic boundaries and limitations are placed appropriately to role model acceptable behaviour and promote the safety of the child and Therapist. The Therapist will not direct the child to speak about a specific topic, instead allowing them to bring whatever challenges they need to into the therapy room. This promotes a sense of control and self-determination within the child.
